Sunday Weekly Wrap Up (16)

SWW

Hey all! Welcome to another Sunday. This blog post is where I “wrap up” everything I’ve done this week, so you can easily find posts to read. Also where I talk about writing, reading, and anything else that’s happened this week.

…And a bit has happened this week!

After the excitement of finishing a novel last week, I’ve moved onto my other WIP The Empire of Stars, which is a YA High Fantasy that I’ve been super-super excited about for ever. I finished the first draft really early this year, and I feel as though I was ready to move to the next stage with the work-in-progress. The bad thing? I just couldn’t write it! I knew what was wrong with it, I even knew somewhat how to fix it…but for some reason, it just wasn’t working. I realized the answer at the beginning of the week: I didn’t know my world very well. So I’ve spent the whole week writing out the history of the world. I finished it last night, and thanks to that, I think I’ll be able to write this draft easily. (Or as easy as revision can be.)

So my tip to you if you’re writing high fantasy: Get to know the worlds you’re writing about. It can be long, short, it doesn’t matter, just as long as your familiar with the world you’ve created.

Also in writing news: I received my feedback from Sourcebooks on The Sweetest Sorrows of Ava Hale (long story short: I entered a competition on Wattpad in which Sourcebooks would offer me editorial feedback and to work with an editor for *possible* publication.) I’ll admit, when I first saw the feedback I had a mini panic attack. Of course, I had expected nothing less, but it’s still majorly daunting  to know you have a lot of revision ahead of you. (But it’s also really really really exciting.)

So this week I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump… every book I seem to pick up I don’t really like. (Currently reading Side Effects May Vary, which I’m not a fan of so far… Don’t get me started about the main character. Urgh!) But hopefully I’ll pick up a book I like soon. Which is very probable considering the massive pile of library books I have.

Cam wonderfully sums up my feelings about in being a reading slump.

In other news: I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT PTA LIVE SYDNEY. It happens tomorrow, and I’m super-super excited to meet people and discuss books.
