Sunday Weekly Wrap Up (37) & Stacking the Shelves (19)

Sunday weekly wrap up

What happened this week?

  • I finished my HSC! YAY. I am frrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeee. My last exam was on Monday, and was Food Technology. I am so glad it’s over.
  • NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month = 50,000 words in a month) begun last Saturday . . . and I finished on the fifth. The novel is so rough, but I’m the sort of writer that can bang out a first draft as quickly as they can.

  • I’ve continued editing The Empire of Stars. Whiiiiiich has been going very slowly. But slowly is better than none, right?!
  • I bought/borrowed some more books! Hence a new Stacking the Shelves post!

This is the meme where you can highlight books you’ve bought/borrowed/gifted/received for review. You can read more on the meme and how to get involved here!

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray

OH, ALL PRAISE THE GORGEOUS COVER. SOOO PRETTY. I’ve heard some mixed things about this — but I’m still super psyched to read this one.

Talon by Julie Kagawa

Another one I’ve heard mixed things . . . but this is by Kagawa, how could I not buy this one?! AND IT’S TEXTURED. AND SO NICE TO TOUCH.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban / Goblet of Fire by J.K Rowling

I have never, ever owned a copy of these books in my life. How strange, huh?? I’ve either listened to the audio book or borrowed it from the library . . . but I got these cheaply, so now I’m very pleased.

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

OH MY GOSH I LITERALLY SQUEALED WHEN I SAW THIS IN MY BOOKSTORE. I have wanted this book ever since its release . . . but have been unable to find it. Until now. Oh, that gorgeous, gorgeous cover! I cannot wait to devour it.

The Girl Who Never Was by Skylar Dorest

This looks awesome. Because faeries! EXCITING.

The Redemption of Callie and Kayden by Jessica Sorensen

Wasn’t a massive fan of the first book, but eh, I like to finish a series.

The Madman’s Daughter / Her Dark Curiosity by Megan Shepard

I’ve wanted to read these books for ages! So excited.

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

Eh. More New Adult? I dunno; I always hear so many things about this book so I thought I should give it ago.

Searching For Sky by Jillian Cantor

This looks so good!

Atlantia by Ally Condie

I actually have no idea how my library got this in so quickly; it’s actually been there for quite a few days now. My library seems to get Penguin books in REALLY QUICKLY. Which is awesome. Except apparently this isn’t about mermaids. Pfft.

Panic by Lauren Oliver

Not sure about this one — but I’m willing to give it a go.

The Emperor’s Blades by Brian Staveley

Heard such awesome things about this; it helps too, that’s epic/high fantasy. And the cover is gorgeous.

This pretty much sums up this week’s book haul:

  1. YOU, my dear, are crazy. ANd I applaud you *applauds you* Congratulations for not only finishing your HSC but finishing NaNo. INSANE. Give me a few more days and I’ll be finished too (I want to do a 10k day today!!!). THOSE BOOKS ARE BEAUTIFUL. Our copies of Harry Potter are actually my mum’s, so one of these days I’ll have to buy my own copies. Until then, they’re miiiinesss.

Lol, I’ll have to get out the bongos tomorrow then :)

  2. Must admit, I was disappointed when I seen that Talon didn’t have a textured cover. It would have been absolutely gorgeous if they had of gone with a glossy texture. HOORAY, exams are finished! Now you can just wander the wilderness until you work out what you’re doing next. What are you hoping to go on to do?

50,000 words in 5 days. I’m still blown away. That is absolutely amazing! Are you going to continue to write for the remaining of the month, or start something new? Would love for you to share a few snippets <3

  3. I WANT TO READ TALON A LOT. But Cruel Beauty??? Ohhhh, it’s really good. I love the ending. I might’ve squeaked, but who’s admitting anything?
Panic…*shudders* But ohhhh, your library is fast with Atlantia! According to the Penguin Aus website it’s not out yet? Or maybe it is out now, though. >.> I feel really out of touch because I was not really blogging last week. Searching for Sky is WONDERFUL and awful. It just is. Trust me.

  4. YOU ARE GOING CRAZY WITH THE BOOKS, POST HSC. I’m in awe of you, lady. Not only do you smash Nano (CONGRATS) but you’re reading like a champ. Believe it or not, my reading has slowed down since the HSC LOL Which is super duper great now that I have all this spare time =_= Enjoy Cruel Beauty. I was oohing and aahing that one but can’t seem to take the leap. Hopefully it’s a good one. CONGRATS ON THE END OF HSC!

  5. YOU DID NANO IN 5 DAYS! You are officially my hero. Going to read that post now.
I have been dying for A Thousand Pieces of You because the cover is gorgeous. I sure hope you like it as much as you like the cover :)
The disappointment about Atlantia not being about mermaids is cracking me up!

  6. Congratulations on finishing your HSC!!! Such an amazing feeling, isn’t it?
And oh my goodness, you finished NaNo by day five! That is crazy but awesome.
Cruel beauty is soooooo good, I really hope you enjoy it.
