Sunday Weekly Wrap Up (62) & Stacking the Shelves (42) | Bones, Books & Catching Up on Blogging

Sunday weekly wrap up

  • OOOKAY. This is more of a multi week wrap up as I haven’t done one of these in a couple of weeks. So in other words, be prepared for a loooooooooot of books.
  • Books read since last weekly wrap up: Beautiful Oblivion by Jamie McGuire | I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson | After Ever Happy by Anna Todd (still trying to figure out that title) | The Heir by Kiera Cass | The Secret of Ella and Micha by Jessica Sorensen | The Magicians by Lev Grossman | Frostfire by Amanda Hocking | Fish out of Water by Natalie Whipple | Crimson Frost by Jennifer Estep |

  • Favourite read since last post? The Heir, definitely.
  • In case you’re wondering: I HAVEN’T forgotten about my Friday Photography. Hopefully I’ll have something new to share — given that I take some photographs I actually like. ^_^
  • BEA was this week. AKA, for us, the people who don’t live in the US or didn’t go, The Week of Stalking People’s Blogs and Twitter for Pretty Book Photos.
  • I’ve been hearing SUCH great things about The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh from multiple people. Anyone here read it? Should I?
  • I started watching the show Bones. You know, the one that has been running for years and years, and I’ve only just discovered it now? That one. It’s morbidly fascinating and I love it.
  • In non book-related news, I tried chocolate vegemite. My advice, if you get the chance? Don’t. Just don’t.

On the Blog . . .

A few weeks ago on MONDAY I asked you: how often do you blog? and received quite varying answers. Then that WEDNESDAY I delved into the idea of translating books, and pondered how different they are from the original material. Last TUESDAY I shared my top ten books I would be reading this winter, with a couple of winter-themed books that turned out to be completely coincidental. And on WEDNESDAY I reviewed The Heir by Kiera Cass and swooned over that cover.

How many of you lucky bloggers got to go to BookExpo America? Anyone snag a coveted copy of Truthwitch by Susan Dennard? (The book I am MOST looking forward to next year.) Tell me below!

  1. I’VE MISSED YOU ON YOUR BLOG, KARA <3 <3 Come backkkkk. Also, yep, totally jealous of all the people at BEA. I definitely need to do some more stalking to see which books people have ended up with!

  2. That’s exactly what I’m doing. Wishing I was at BEA while watching all those vlogs and posts :/ Oh well….On another note, people in the vlogs say that Susan Dennard was really rude. I heard several girls say they wont read the book now :/

  3. Ahhhhh you have started watching bones. Yay. I completely binge watched the first 5 or 6 seasons until I caught up! Ahhh it is such an amazing show. You will love it. I absolutely adore Brennan :) you have to let me know what you think of the episodes!!!

  4. The Week of Stalking People’s Blogs and Twitter for Pretty Book Photos INDEED! Looks like you’ve read and gotten some pretty awesome books. Lots I need to get to myself. Also I can’t wait for more photography Fridays -you always have such lovely pictures!

  5. *whispers* Me and Earl and the Dying Girl was one of the worst books I ever read. What are your thoughts on it, senpai?

  6. I read fish out of water and the Heir this month too. They were both good, but Eadylen was annoying (also, I can’t spell her name) No I did not go to BEA, because I live in India. But it seems fun! I have a Wrath and Dawn audio. But I only listened to 20 minutes because I was busy:( I love the way you show pictures of your books by the way, it’s reallly interesting

  7. OMGOJAOIHGGGGG u read that 1D fanfiction inspired book thing thing?? I wasn’t even aware you were reading that series? How was it? I’m so curious!!

AND MAGICIANS!! I like really want to read that but the american covers AND OH MY GOODNESS THAT THING IS EXPENSIVE

    • How was it? Jess, I don’t even know where to BEGIN with that series. I wanted to love it, but . . . I can’t, just CAN’T condone, or like, an abusive relationship. THE MAGICIANS was INTERESTING. Still trying to untangle my thoughts on it, honestly.

  8. Ooh, what did you think of I’ll Give You the Sun? I just read this recently – I couldn’t quite get into it at the beginning but by the end I loved it! Yay, Bones! I see you have decided to give The Bone Season another try… :)

  9. Yes to your little BEA comment. I was stalking Twitter even until 2am because that means it’s 2pm for them, haha. I haven’t read Wrath yet (because our local bookstore ran out of hardcovers–sob), but I have heard AMAZING things.

YOU GOT SIMON VS. THE HOMO SAPIENS AGENDA. I really hope you love it as much as I did, Kara! <3

  10. I’ve fallen a bit behind on my blog too but am now set to get back to normal.
BEA, if only! It would be so amazing to be able to one year.
I’m really looking forward to Truthwitch as well. It sounds so amazing.

  11. Ahhh! So many amazing books this week Kara! I really liked both Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda and The Naturals so I hope you like them both as much as I did! <3 And I'm curious to know what your thoughts are on Me, Earl and the Dying Girl – especially after all the insane publicity hype it’s been getting. I’m crossing my fingers it lives up to it for you!

Thanks for sharing, and happy reading! <33

  12. Your book haul looks amazing this week! & I’m stalking people with their BEA’s posts as well lol, I find it awesome seeing other people’s haul. The Wrath and The Dawn was a DNF for me, maybe you might like it better though? I’ve read other positive reviews on it as well.

  13. Ive been dying to read I’ll Give You The Sun, but alas time (or lack thereof has not allowed me to go bunt ahunting). As for the Vegemite chocolate, I 100% agree with you and I almost regret trying it, but I feel like I’ve achieved a higher level of beig Australian now. AND YES BONES IS SO GOOD!!! Ugh, I love it A LOT (as you can probably tell hehe), and am up for shipping/guessing who is going to end up with whom/whose going to die discussions! (Also, if you like those type of shows, I’d also recommend Castle)

  14. BONES!!!!!!!! One of my favorite shows. I started it around season 5 or 6, and while I don’t watch every single episode, I do pop in from time to time when I’m feeling in the mood. So glad you love it too! Also, looks like you’ve read some good books! I’m excited for The Heir. The Selection Series is addicting and while I spent most of the time reading the books just being frustrated at America, I still loved them.

  15. I missed your Friday photos this week, ooh can we get a double next Friday?

Chocolate Vegemite. It should never have been a thing. I tried it a few weeks ago and the taste didn’t bother me as much as the aftertaste. I can’t tell you how many times I brushed my teeth, used mouthwash and even tried eating a crap load of other things to get rid of the taste and I could still taste it the next day.

Awesome haul this week too Kara, the only one I’ve read so far is Every Move and it’s absolutely glorious! Have a wonderful week of reading poppet and thanks for sharing <3

  16. Vegemite….? What? I’m Canadian, we have poutine though. So let’s switch!

I didn’t go to BEA but I got some of those ARCs yay! I have a copy of Truthwitch and also got Six of Crows too (: The books you read look excellent, though, so that’s a plus!

  17. Yesss I just love The Bone Season (haven’t read the Mime Order yet though) so I hope you really enjoy it! Yeah, I wasn’t keen on Chocolate Vegemite when I first heard about it *shudders* thanks for helping me to stay away. Have a lovely week hun!
