This post is a long, long time coming. Seriously: I got these books either just before Christmas, or just after. Lately, reading has been a bit sketchy—between working on MIDNIGHT QUEEN and just life in general—but I have managed to do some excellent reading in the time that I have had.
I read and DEVOURED Marie Lu’s THE ROSE SOCIETY; absolutely loved Amie Kaufman & Megan Spooner’s THIS SHATTERED WORLD; and sped through Ursula K. Le Guin’s A WIZARD OF EARTHSEA.
I literally cannot recommend Marie Lu’s THE ROSE SOCIETY enough. (You can see my review of the first one here.) Her world expanded, Adelina became so, SO much more villainous (I absolutely ADORE those heroine who lurk in those shade of gray; they’re fascinating, and wonderful, and I totally wish YA was filled with more of them.)
Right after high fantasy—science fiction (a la Star Wars) is yet another genre I love, and again, wish there was more of in YA. Amie Kaufman & Megan Spooner’s STARBOUND series is one of those rare YA Sci-Fi books that promises, and completely delivers. I’ve also been told ILLUMINAE is another brilliant YA Sci-Fi, so that’s being pushed up my to-read list.
A WIZARD OF EARTHSEA is one of those books that I’ve heard about, but have never really thought about reading until I was given it as a Christmas gift. And I read it in one sitting. One sitting.
A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES by Sarah J. Maas / A WIZARD OF EARTHSEA by Ursula Le Guin / GARDENS OF THE MOON by Steven Erikson / FURIES OF CALDERON by Jim Butcher
Aaaaaaand, just for the heck of it—here are some inside pictures of FRAYED and its GORGEOUS interior design.
Eeee, is that not lovely!?
